Helpful Tips in Organizing a Successful Fundraiser
1. Determine your event
Brainstorm to decide upon a fun event that excites you. Looking for suggestions? How about:
- Dinner/ dance
- Tournament – baseball, card tournament
- Sporting Event – relay race
- “A-thon” – walk-a-thon, dance-a-thon, bike-a-thon
- Golf Tournament
2. Form an organizing committee
Fundraisers require a lot of time and energy, so recruiting an enthusiastic team to help create a successful event will be very important.
3. Promote your event through our website
Once you have decided on a fundraiser, contact us to discuss the details. We are more than happy to help out where we can! We can promote your event on our website and post it in our calendar for all to see.

It is important to understand who your target audience is so that you can promote your event successfully. You will also need to be able to reach your target to ensure you have the required number of participants to raise funds.
6. Set the Date
Remember that the date of your event needs to be convenient for participants and those interested in being a spectator.
This may have to be booked several months in advance.
If you plan to use the “Support Our Troops” yellow ribbon image on any marketing material, we ask that you fill out our request form, as the image is a legally protected image that requires permission for its use.
9. Deposit of Funds
We ask that you collect and submit funds raised from your event and submit to Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) within 30 days of your event. At this time all income tax receipts, for eligible donors, will be processed.
*Tax receipts for Pledge donations must be submitted including the following information:
First and last name, full mailing address, amount donated, date donation was received.
10. Always say Thank You
It is very important to acknowledge everyone who helped make the event a success; from volunteers, to sponsors and venue owners. You should inform all involved parties of how much was raised and thank them for their efforts.
