Sound of Freedom
is an innovative collaboration between the musicians of the Canadian Forces and civilian singers and songwriters. The project was formally launched on April 14th, 2010 by General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS).
The title of the album is derived from words spoken by the CDS during a public address session in Kandahar that was interrupted by a low altitude fly-by of jets. These words are featured as an overlay to the opening track, an instrumental pipes & drums piece.
The album was created in order to raise funds and awareness for the Support Our Troops Fund
. The fund provides assistance to serving and former members of the Canadian Forces due to situations that arise due to their unique conditions of service.
The songs on the album are not what would generally be considered as tribute songs in that they are commercial pop/rock tracks without overt messaging. The themes found in the music are those that resonate with all Canadians: love, longing, renewal and hope for bright future.
Sound of Freedom is dedicated to the extraordinary men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line to protect our country, our freedom and international peace and security; and to their families that make sacrifices on a daily basis and carry the weight while their loved ones are away.
All proceeds from the sale of these recordings are contributed to the Support Our Troops Funds. The Support Our Troops program provides compassionate care and social support for members of the Canadian Forces and their families. You can also show your support, by visiting www.SupportOurTroops.ca
